The app is free software

FolderSkin is free software under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0-only). You can use it for anything, study how it works, change it and share it. If you share a changed version, share its source under the same licence. Releases up to 0.1.6 came out under the MIT licence and keep it.

You don't have to accept these terms to run FolderSkin. The licence alone lets you.

As far as the law allows, FolderSkin comes as it is, with no warranty of any kind, and nobody who wrote, changed or passed it on is liable for damage from using it. Sections 15 and 16 of the licence say this in full, and they're what applies.

Community packs

Community packs are made by the people who share them. Each pack is its author's, under the licence it shows: CC0 1.0, CC BY 4.0 or MIT. Use its pictures as that licence allows, and credit the author where it asks you to. FolderSkin doesn't own them.

A person reviews every pack before it's published, and packs marked Official are ones the maintainer vouches for. Even so, each author answers for their own pack. If you find one that breaks the rules, report it, or write to hello@folderskin.app.

Sharing a pack

Sharing a pack means agreeing to the pack sharing terms. The app asks you to confirm them before anything is sent, and the version you agreed to is kept with the pack. In short, the pictures are yours to share and contain nothing the terms rule out, the licence you pick can't be taken back from copies already out there, and a maintainer decides whether a pack is published and can remove it later. The pack sharing terms are what apply, and nothing on this page changes them.

The FolderSkin name and logo

The GPL covers FolderSkin's code, not its name and logo. Those stay with the official releases so people can tell them apart, as section 7(e) of the GPL allows, and TRADEMARKS.md says how to use them.

• You don't need to ask to say your project is a fork of FolderSkin, is based on it or works with it, to link to it or write or make videos about it, to pass on the official releases unchanged, or to show the logo to mean FolderSkin itself.
• Ask first before you release a changed build under the FolderSkin name or logo, or a name or icon that could be taken for them, name anything so it looks like FolderSkin's, or suggest that FolderSkin endorses you.

A changed build you give to other people needs a name and icon of its own.

Using the community service

The community service, at community.folderskin.app, is free, and it's there for everyone who shares and adds packs. Please don't:

• send a pack that breaks the pack sharing terms
• get around its limits, checks or bans, with new keys, other networks or anything else
• share from someone else's computer, or give anyone your key
• flood it with automated requests, or try to break into it
• use a report to harass someone, or to get a pack taken down for no reason

Each computer and network can share only so much a day. A computer or network that breaks the rules can be refused or banned: a pack turned down as abuse bans the computer that sent it for good, and its network for 30 days. The maintainer can also pause sharing at any time. The service comes as it is, and it can be down, change or stop.

Other services

FolderSkin reaches a few services it doesn't run, such as GitHub, Hugging Face and the AI provider whose key you add. Their own terms apply when you use them through FolderSkin, and a provider bills you for what you make with your key.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, so does the date at the top. The pack sharing terms have versions of their own, and a pack is held to the version agreed to when it was sent.
